While an accurate diagnosis is important, you will want to be able to trust your doctor with whatever information they give you. Before choosing a doctor, finding out what school they go to, what associations they belong to, and how many years they have been practicing can help ease your mind. Some diseases may take a while to treat, but with a doctor you trust it will make the experience much easier.

Podiatry is the field of medicine that deals with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases and disorders of the human foot and ankle. The term chiropody is used in British English. A medical professional who specializes in podiatry is known as a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM), or more commonly, a podiatrist. In the United States, the education for a podiatrist consists of a doctoral-level four-year program after their undergraduate college degree, followed by a two or three year residency. The first four years of Podiatric Medical School are similar to other types of medical training, but with more emphasis on foot and ankle problems and slightly less emphasis on other medical disciplines such as pathology and neonatology.
